Excess Staff?

The City offered engineering and planning services to Tonka Bay. However, Tonka Bay elected to hire WSB, an engineering and consulting firm, to provide these services. So, the Insider wonders what happens next.

Seems obvious that if the City can offer to do work for others (as was the case too with Excelsior and finance services which Excelsior accepted) that there must be extra engineering and planning staff hours in Shorewood's City Hall. Will Mayor Lizee and her council buddies have the courage to adjust staffing? It'd be the right thing to do for the taxpayers.

  1. Simple question: How would Shorewood staff, proud of the city's more restrictive policies and ordinances, mesh its values with Tonka Bay the city that grants variances for everything?
    Not throwing stones at Tonka Bay but how could the Shorewood staff objectively switch hats after being so long of only one view? Tonka Bay made a wise, though probably more expensive, decision.

  2. A better question might be why Tonka Bay didn't want Shorewood Engineering and Planning services. Not professional enough?

    1. Might wind up with a 10'x 20' "Welcome to Tonka Bay" sign at the border. Ha!!!

  3. A few years ago, Brad Neilson bid on the Tonka Bay contract for this as an individual and lost out. If Tonka Bay this time chose Shorewood, it would probably be Mr. Neilson who be the actual provider. Is there more to the story?

  4. It is easier for the Minnetonka School District to deal with excess capacity. All they have to do is recruit more students from outside the district. Has to be over 20% of the student body by now.

  5. Has anyone sat back and evaluated the recent staff reductions the City has implemented. We know the pros the city will save dollars (after all backroom deals are cut for severance packages). Now to the cons what is the atmosphere these day's of those city employees that were left to pick up the pieces.
