  1. RIP Laura.
She was a hard worker and a good person.
Insider, I though you WERE Laura.

  2. Laura was a hard worker and an advocate for the people and policies of Shorewood.

She did not let politics get in the way of making sound decisions and had the balls to vote against anything that didn't smell right.

We probably did not thank her enough for the work that she did on our behalf.

  3. Many of us used Laura as a mouthpiece for our issues. She went to the mat for us against police, fire, wards, drainage, whatever the issue du jour.

She was not afraid to stand alone against other councilmembers even when it got ugly. Thank you, Laura.

  4. The last conversation I had with her was at the Smithtown Trail Meeting at Minnewashta Elementary in November.

She said to build it. It breaks my heart to know that the last conversation I had with her was about the good of the city, yet so typical.

    She was our good friend.

  5. I'm not convinced everything she did was as brilliant, wonderful and selfless, but what do I know?

Well, I know Laura is not the "insider."

But thanks to her passing I was inspired to revisit this blog for the first time in months.

And thanks to her passing, I, as someone who chooses to marginalize those who disagree with the status quo, got quite a chuckle.

I underestimated a small group of dissenters. Foolish me. Look at the impact the dissenters had on the 2012 mayoral election!

So long Laura, and thanks for the memories. Your ways and means weren't always in the best interest of all residents of Shorewood, no matter what a small group of dissenters think, but you provided a lot of memories in the work you did. Some I would applaud. Others I would disagree with, just like everyone who came before and after you.

    1. I don't see the words "brilliant, wonderful or selfless" in any prior posts. So while your reading skills are not so good, pat yourself on the back for being an expert in marginalization. Small group? How would you know?

    2. You sound like quite a Shorewood visionary, Anonymous. Someone who has been around and seen it all, and knows what's best for Shorewood(y).
      You mention "dissenters" three times.
      What are they dissenting against?

    3. When you don't have an argument, nitpick over the choice of words.

  6. Seriously? "Small group of dissenters?" Impact on the 2012 mayoral election? We had one candidate. Good people are afraid to run in this city lest they be insulted and marginalized in public.

Many of us are tired of the whole sick, inbred politics that has gone on in this community for so long. And whether or not Laura was right or good or whatever, she was not part of the sickness. She called it.

    1. Shorewood is so intolerable, and so many people dislike it, yet nobody is willing to run for mayor to stand up for a large group of dissenters out of fear of insults and marginalization?

      The math doesn't add up.

Thanks again, Laura, for providing a good laugh.
