Residents Acting Responsibly

5/9/12

All Shorewood residents owe it to themselves and their neighbors to act responsibly. Some examples of irresponsibility are:

- Leaving your car, truck, house, garage, etc. unlocked so anyone casually wandering down your street can steal from you. Just read the local papers and see that such thefts happen weekly. Irresponsible actions cause increase in police activity and increase police cost while reducing police availability to deal with more important matters: like speeding. Get a grip! Lock it up. We live in a city, not on the farm.

- Ever seen a baggie full of dog poop along side the street or the trail? It too is pretty common. Who bags up their dog's mess and leaves it for someone else to pickup? If it's you, shame on you. It's disgusting.

- What about the people who leave junk mail on the ground at their mailbox? This eyesore diminishes the value of our neighborhoods. Yes, junk mail is a pain sometimes, but protesting by throwing it on the ground isn't helping anyone.

What's your favorite irresponsible act? Comment here.

  1. I will leave my property unsecured if I choose. It is not your business. Sounds like a personal pet-peeve rather than a serious issue.

You could talk to the people leaving the trash at their mailbox. Wouldn't that be acting responsibly (rather than whining to us)?
    Good luck.

  2. What's the point? You can't get any action on anything less than a murder in this town. When you complain you become the problem.

  3. Dog poop. While I see many responsible dog owners carrying bags, empty and full, for their dog's poop I see equally as many who allow their dog to poop on the boulevard thinking, a) nobody is looking and/or b) its OK because the area is wooded. And again, nobody is looking. I am looking.

One day at Freeman Park I saw a woman let her spaniel out of the car in the lot by Eddy Station, led it up to the paved trail on the east side of the park (it was leashed), watched it poop along the side of the trail and proceed on her walk.

PS. I am a large dog owner and I do not leave the house with my dog without at least 2 bags in my pocket.

  4. If everyone locked their houses and cars, the "South Lake" police would be left to arrest drunks coming out of Excelsior bars.

  5. Isn't that what they are doing and that is why we have to leave a message when we call the police department?
